While motorcycles are driven year-round, the warmer months are highly desired among bikers to hit the road. With more time outside, riders need to make sure they’re following required safety precautions to keep themselves and others safe on the road. Take note of these 5 tips to have a safe and fun summer cruising around.

 

1. Don’t Wing It!

Don’t just assume you know all the rules of operating a two-wheel vehicle because you can drive a car. Rules vary for different vehicles. You need to obtain a separate Class M license to drive motorcycles by first earning your permit after a knowledge test. You then need to schedule a road test or training through your state’s transportation authority. Some insurance companies even offer a discount if you complete a safety course!

2. Follow State Laws 

In Pennsylvania, it is required to have insurance to operate a motorcycle. 5. Abide by Traffic Laws

It should go without saying, but motorcyclists should ride in traffic just like cars. Following posted speed signs, not weaving in and out of other vehicles, or riding on the shoulder are all ways that riders can stay safe.
