It’s no secret that The Yurconic Agency is a proud family business. In 1969, John Yurconic Sr. started the John Yurconic Agency to provide personal and small business insurance to the Lehigh Valley. Twenty years later, his son, John Yurconic Jr., joined the business with a focus on developing market-specific Personal and Commercial Insurance products. Since John Jr. took on a leadership position, the agency has grown to 16 locations and has expanded to include vehicle and notary services. In 2024, John Jr.’s son is ready to continue the legacy. The Yurconic Agency is excited to welcome the third-generation John Yurconic as we continue to grow, support, and protect our community. Get to know the newest team member!
Can you talk about your choice to join the business?
JY: I was a Chemical Engineer major at Lafayette College and pursued that profession upon graduation. I was doing well and enjoyed what I was doing as an engineer and supervisor. There wasn’t necessarily a specific moment where I had this epiphany that I was going to join the business, but rather just a slow buildup of the feeling over time. The Yurconic Agency has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’m happy to be on board!
What are you excited about for the future of The Yurconic Agency?
JY: Everything, honestly. I have been rotating throughout each division in our company and so far I have acquired my insurance license and notary seal. Right now, I am working in the Notary and Tag Division to get to know the retail side of the business and all of our locations across the Greater Lehigh Valley. I’m excited to see what the future holds and getting to know everyone who works here that makes The Yurconic Agency the great, customer-focused organization that it is.
What do you think makes The Yurconic Agency stand apart from the rest?
JY: From what I’ve seen so far, I have seen firsthand how customer-driven and down-to-earth we are with all of our customers. I had a recent experience at our American Parkway location that really reflected this:
It was a busy Friday afternoon and everyone was trying to get their tasks done before the weekend. The customer at the desk next to me was explaining the issue to our employee and trying to figure out a solution. They would laugh and joke but were professional and able to do what needed to be done. Before the customer left he said, “You know, when I think of John Yurconics, I think ‘very serious and strict to work with’. I never would have thought you were all so down-to-earth and helpful, especially at a busy time like this. Thank you so much.”
It was upon hearing that unsolicited compliment from the customer that hammered home to me that we treat the customer the right way here at The Yurconic Agency, and that has been and always will be the most critical aspect of the Agency in order to continue on as we have for the last 50+ years.
What is it like having two generations of The Yurconic Agency presidents to look up to as you start to dip your toes into the business?
JY: What it really comes down to is having the full history of The Yurconic Agency at my fingertips. Our family is very close (we literally all live within a mile of each other) and I get to see them all the time! It is so great to be able to hear all the stories about the business all the way from the early days up until now. I’m very excited to put my own stamp on the business and help carry on the family values that make the Agency so special today.
